Prof. DRAGAN POPOSKI

DADA
(1933-2021)

(President of CSLU-Prilep 1998-2001)

He was born in Prilep, in 1933, and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts (1961) and postgraduate studies (1964) in Belgrade, in the class of prof. John Kratohville. He worked as a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje. He made study trips to Greece, Italy, England, France, Germany, Poland, USA. Since 1965 he has realized several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group performances in the country and abroad. He is the author of several monumental works and has won several awards, including in 1981, the highest state award "October 11".

Of his monumental works scattered around the world, two stand out in Prilep and Prilep region, among which awarded with
I prize in 1963, which he received as the first in his career as a realized academic sculptor, in Prilep, for the work "Woman-fighter".

Dragan Poposki - Dada, who was a creatively inexhaustible and constant friend of Prilep and the Center for Contemporary Fine Arts, for more than 40 years, was additionally part of the councils and organizations of this oldest art colony in Southeast Europe. In the period from 1998 to 2001, Dada was also the president of CSLU-Prilep.

His works adorn the whole of Macedonia, some of which are made directly through CSLU and maintain the memory that will live forever through his favorite and whitest marble - Prilep, which during several decades of cooperation with us explored most often through archetypal forms - ball, cube and cylinder. Often, his sculptural iconography from a local context, through minimization in certain stages of his work, was internationalized and thus he was an indisputable part of the general world sculpture. His transformations are still an inspiration to the generations he taught, and to those who have learned and are learning from them.

Dada's death, apart from being an invaluable loss for the Macedonian and Balkan sculpture, given his activity until he was 85, is just as great for us, and especially for the city of Prilep.

The doyen of the Macedonian sculpture Dragan Poposki - Dada died on September 27, 2021, at the age of 88.

His last exhibition was in 2018 in Daut Pasha Amam.
